D+LIGHTFUL TREATS COTTAGE BAKERY
Opened in 2024, D+Lightful Treats is a cottage bakery that makes unique baked goods from high-quality ingredients. Woman-owned and led, the small company also has a niche focus on creating vegan and gluten-free options that are indistinguishable from baked goods made with traditional ingredients. The company focuses on sales and distribution at farmer’s markets and through custom orders. D+Lightful Treats’ values include quality, flavor, variety, and “cuteness” - which can be seen in their products. Equally, owner Deane Newborg wants to convey a business personality to customers that amplifies a sense of care, creativity, fun, and whimsy.
LOGO DESIGN
Great logo design helps to establish personality, tone, and good expectations for a business. I collaborated with new business owner Deane Newborg to develop a brand identity for her company’s lead logo, business cards, packaging materials, menus, and signage.
My logo’s distinctive design focuses on a playful, welcoming aesthetic that immediately relates a sense of whimsy, creativity, and handmade artisanship. This highly playful aesthetic sense is also translated into all signage, menus, and packaging.
For packaging, the bakery uses a thermal heat printer to produce stickers placed on clear plastic bags and containers of baked goods. The thermal heat printer can only produce materials in black and white. With this production technology at hand, I developed a logo that looks attractive in color but can also retain its’ key design elements when transposed to a black and white design form.

FACEBOOK BANNER
As a small, cottage bakery, D+Lightful Treats relies on social media and word of mouth marketing. Therefore, the company’s Facebook page is a key point of intersection with customers; the company does not maintain a website.
For Facebook marketing, I developed a Facebook banner that collaborates in style with the bakery’s logo design and also places high focus on the bakery’s beautifully decorated baked goods. I also used the opportunity of a Facebook banner to feature the company’s owner, which helps to amplify the company’s woman-owned status as well as humanize the company’s identity as a bakery.

PRINTED BUSINESS CARDS
A leading need for D+Lightful Treats’ company owner Deane Newborg was the development of business cards that strongly conveyed the company’s brand identity and vibe. I developed several variations of a business card design that not only featured the company’s newly developed brand logo but also used additional design elements to amplify the company’s aesthetic of whimsy, handmade craftsmanship, and creativity. The business owner appreciated having a number of options and possibilities to choose from.

PRINTED MARKET MENU
As a company that focuses on sales and distribution at farmer’s markets and through custom orders (vs. brick-and-mortar), I suggested that developing a printed menu to display alongside baked good sales would be immensely helpful for farmer market customers. Printed menus (11” X 4.5”) help customers to identify items and prices in the bustling farmer’s market environment and also provide customers with a quick reference guide that lists all baked goods offered on a lively table display.

PRINTED QR CODE SIGNAGE
Sales at farmer’s markets also requires branded signage of many types. Chief among these needs is signage for directions concerning digital payment.
